Pitting Evaluation on Tank Container

                                                       Pitting Evaluation on Tank Container

Interesting discussions with some #tankcontainer owners regarding pitting... ITCO ACC states that corrosion or pitting reducing the shell thickness to less than the specified minimum or causing contamination, traps are NOT acceptable conditions and it gives you 3 types (A, B, C)

 Type-A Shallow Clean Pit. // Type B Crater or Pinhole. // Type C – Pore or Cavity;

 however, ITCO ACC is a great guideline, very useful and totally applicable but it is not an inspection code or standard and does not intend to be so... ASTM G46-94 and API 510 ie, will give better criteria to evaluate a pressure vessel and release it for service or not... for instance: during the current inspection, widely scattered pits maybe ignored, for instance when The total area of the pitting that is deeper than the corrosion, allowance does not exceed 7 in.2 (45 cm2) within any 8-in. (20- cm).
